Body Freedom Foundations
Pillar 2: Rest and Relaxation

Sleep is a cornerstone of good health. Restful and restorative sleep is integral to any healing and rejuvenation process.

While it’s common for people to recognize they need to change their eating and exercise patterns to improve their health, it’s less common for people to prioritize sleep in the same way. Selecting foods and exercising feels like you are doing something.

When it comes to sleep, the whole point is to do nothing!

It’s important for you to explain to your clients that while their conscious self may be taking a break, the body is kicking into healing mode to clean all the normal debris and toxicity accumulated during a normal day. When the body spends more time in peaceful slumber, it has more time to catch up on cleaning and repair. When your clients get less than the full 8 – 10 hours of sleep on a regular basis, the repair and detoxification processes don’t take place efficiently,  hormones (like leptin, ghrelin, growth hormone and the sex hormones) suffer, appetite increases, and insulin resistance develops, even if they are eating a low glycemic, clean diet.

Your goal will be to help your clients gradually improve their sleep routine. The resources provided in the Rest Pillar pages can help you do that.

Work Through the Resources Below

Getting a Good Night’s Sleep for Optimal Health, Vitality, and Longevity

Watch an introductory video that will explain why sleep is integral to any healing, effective approach to health and hormone balancing. Included is a sleep assessment and an action plan designed to begin the basic steps towards optimizing sleep.

Activities for Enhanced Sleep Quality

The steps included in this section will improve sleep quality, even for those who are sleeping soundly. This can lead to increased energy, stamina, and overall good health. Optimizing, deepening, and enhancing sleep, assists the body’s repair processes, and balances hormones.

Activities for Overcoming Sleep Difficulties

For those who are not regularly falling asleep easily and sleeping through the night, these activities can help – both with falling asleep and sleeping more soundly. The better the sleep, the better the body is at optimizing repair and hormone balance.

Herbs and Supplements for Optimizing Your Sleep

There’s a video and a list of helpful herbs and supplements that are especially helpful for the racing mind that can’t slow down enough to facilitate sound sleep.

Advanced Sleep Resources

This page offers extra and advanced resources to help maximize sleep quality and hormone balance. It includes detailed information about sleep cycles, the interplay of hormones during sleep, how to trigger fat burning, and how to take a “sleep vacation.”
