30 Responses to Nutritional Endocrinology Practitioner Training (NEPT): Ask the Doctor: Questions for NEPT Open Coaching Calls

  1. Margi Hannegan says:

I am helping a young lady treat endometriosis holistically. She elected not to follow her physician’s advice, (thank goodness) then went to a Naturopath doctor but not getting answers on diet and lifestyle or what exactly to do. Other than food and lifestyle changes, cleaning up the diet, adding in powerful foods using herbs and supplements, getting the toxins eliminated as much as possible, what are other options? She did live in a rental with mold for a year.

  2. Mihaela Gruita says:

Can colostrum (used for leaky gut) cause blood sugar increase?

    • Lynn DeBuhr Johnson says:

This is a great question, Mihaela. I hope you come to the next NEPT Open Coaching call to ask.

Many people use bovine colostrum supplements to help boost muscle mass and strength, combat the signs of aging, and minimize Leaky Gut Syndrome (LGS). Furthermore, bovine colostrum may help stabilize glucose levels and reduce the risk of catabolism, i.e., the destruction of muscle.

Bovine colostrum may help diabetics control their glucose levels, as well as repairing cells and tissue that have been damaged by years of inflammation. The supplement delivers a wide range of health benefits and may prove to be a game-changer for millions of diabetics around the world.

      • Mihaela Gruita says:

Thank you. That’s what I thought, but I started myself and a client on it and both of us noticed an increase in BS. However, we both have a dairy sensitivity and I wonder if that stresses the system causing the BS to go up. The increase is about 10 points.

        • Lynn DeBuhr Johnson says:

Good point, Mihaela. Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and its closely related counterpart insulin-like growth factor-2 (IGF-2), are potent hormones that are found in association with almost all cells in the body. IGF-1 is the best described and most potent of this pair. These molecules are produced by all mammals and, in every case, have a very similar chemical structure regardless of the species. IGF-1 is essential for normal cell growth and for the development of the fetus in the uterus. Both IGF-1 and growth hormone are required for normal post-natal development, and that is why they are both present in colostrum. The IGFs are structurally very similar to insulin and, in fact, in certain diseases the specific receptors for insulin on cells in the body are sometimes incapable of distinguishing between IGF-1 and insulin.

  3. Jane McMahon says:

    Hi there,

I was just on the coaching call and fascinated by all the amazing tests.. I’d really like to get the ball rolling with getting my own testing done for my health. Who do I email to ask what specific tests that I could get done?

Also, does anyone know what company Isabelle did her genetic testing through that she showed on the call?

    Thank you, Jane

  4. Maria Horstmann says:

I submitted 2 cases for tomorrow 1/24’s call:
    1) 2 files with list of supplements. Would like your thoughts on quality per description
    2) 3 files StrateGene and Metabolic Healing and blood work

    Thank you

  5. Shonda Holt says:

I have submitted 2 case studies for tomorrow’s open coaching call. The first one is a client and the other one is me.

  6. Megan Martin says:

    Hi, This is Zee…
Asking for help / ideas for a friend with a very sick child. She’s flying from Hawaii to Philly for better doctors, but I’m hoping you can offer some insights that can help get a jumpstart on whatever they do.
    Her child’s story:
“More than 10 doctors (allopathic and alternative) & specialists in HI consulted already, no diagnosis.
Just shy of 3 yrs, sick enough that she’s stopped walking at all. Advil rapidly addresses her pain, It’s like night and day for her. Excruciating to chatty.
Never vaccinated. C-section birth, breast fed to age 2. Allergic/reactive to breast milk when her mother ate things she’s reactive to.
IGE levels >6000 “forever”. Severe food allergies (peanuts, dairy, casein, eggs, very intolerant to grains, beans, soy). Chronic diarrhea. Rectal prolapse. Loses a lot of blood every day. Pretty much has lost the ability to walk. Inflammation markers out the roof. Drinks plenty. Great appetite (meat, vegies, fruits). Happy attitude when pain is controlled.
June she got a Aeromonas bacteria from the Gulf of Mexico, was hospitalized for that, and has gotten worse ever since. They put her on bactrum. I feel she may even have a staph infection internally in her hip or something.
Then she got c.diff. They tried to give her flagl and she had a severe reaction.
She had a blood transfusion a couple weeks ago.
Something is going on in her hips, they did a bone Xray and said her bones look fine, but she’s no longer walking.
Has done l-glutamine, bone broths, arsenia, phosphate, CBD, none of which appeared to help. Thinking maybe a fecal transplant?”
So the question… what would you be looking for? Thoughts on what might be going wrong? Anything she should be asking her new docs in Philly to be looking at?

  7. Alma Hachey says:

Could you please share some methods to lessen the effects of yeast die off when on an anti-microbial protocol? Symptoms are fatigue, brain fog, carb and especially sweet (chocolate) craving. Do you suggest lowering the dose of the herbs and if that were the case, would it take longer? Also, what are your thoughts on Nystatin – would you ever recommend that instead? Thanks!

  8. Alma Hachey says:

Could you review my Meridian Valley Comprehensive Ultimate Hormone Profile test? I have uploaded it for the call. I would like some insight on the numbers that were out of range, especially the extremely high growth hormone. What do you think the cause could be for the high HGH and what could I do about it? Could that be what’s causing my frequent headaches? I will try to make it to the call tomorrow. Thanks!

  9. Drena Bennet says:

I have a client that has had a hysterectomy and has had bio identical hormone therapy that didn’t give her any relief. Going through health history have discovered that she has leaky gut and insulin resistance and adrenal burn out. She has no libido and hasn’t had an intimate relationship with her husband in 10 years. She has had a 30 pound weight increase in the last 10 years. Does the B4BGone program protocols help? Also incorporating some of the digestion protocols and Adrenal stress protocols? Her digestion definitely is showing enzymes to be a problem. I ran her Oct blood work through the tracker and it showed a lot of absorption issues. I will upload her tracker. Thank you

  10. Laura Ricci says:

Could you review my doctor’s data stool test results and take a look at my latest thyroid panel? I will upload them for the call. Thanks!

  11. Drena Bennet says:

Can you answer this question on todays NEF call pls. Hopefully it will be recorded.

Could you please listen to the module 5 vitamin A on vitamin A and thyroid. On the transcript its confusing and on the recording even more so. I am confused. In the transcript you say it increases TSH and in the next sentence says it decreases it. Then the last sentense makes no sense, about iron and then iodine. Nothing is clear here. Clarity pls!!!!
Let’s take a quick look at vitamin A and thyroid. That’s very important too. Vitamin A deficiency will increase TSH. This is deficiency specifically. If we have a deficiency of vitamin A, it can decrease the amount of TSH that you have. It also can increase the size of the thyroid gland, because it may increase the uptake or the … It may decrease the uptake of iron, but iodine so the thyroid swells and gets larger.

  12. Alli Smith says:

Request for review July 16- Unfortunately I am not able to join for the live call, though I was hoping you’d please review the attached Thyroid labs for client Joyce.

    54-year-old female
ultrasound on 3/25 with 7 nodules on thyroid (Is surgery imminent to remove nodules?)
started taking 5 mg 3x/day of methamazole (generic for topazole)

    Autoimmune HypERthyroidism? Labs uploaded.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate your review and insight.

  13. Sequoia Springford says:

re: case study for 16 July 2015: just got the latest blood test results – have uploaded on a separate health tracker and also input them on bloodchemistysoftware

  14. Sequoia Springford says:

Have uploaded 2 lots of files for case study for NEPT Coaching Call on Thursday July 16

  15. Steph Jackson says:

Hi Ritamarie, I’m sorry I can’t make the live call today 🙁 but I do have a question. I am wondering if we could go over which standard tests done through regular conventional labs are ACTUALLY good measures of the body’s levels of those nutrients? I know the D test is good… (although still far from standard) are there any others? I’m so tired of telling people that ferritin is not the same as iron and the B12 isn’t all that accurate. I want to appear balanced and somewhat sane. 🙂

  16. Sequoia Springford says:

have submitted my 205E for feedback and case study on NEPT coaching call on May 14, 2015, is it possible to do it first as I have to go out later? Sequoia

  17. Sequoia Springford says:

Information for NEPT coaching call on 31 March 2015 – I have uploaded the health tracker as well

    26 March 2015
(US conversion in brackets) 26 November 2014

    TSH 34.5 0.12
    T4 Free 10.9 (0.847) 17.6 (1.367)
    T3 Free 3.1 (2.017) 6.5 (4.231)
    Thyroperoxidase Ab 146 159
    Thyroglobulin Ab 439 464
    Thyroglobulin 1688 444.4

These are the latest thyroid results for Colleen who has Hashimoto’s. The first set of results was on thyroid medication. Has now been off meds for 3 weeks and feels much better: heart rate is no longer rapid, sleeps better.

Since November 2014 she has been gluten-free, and since January 2015 has been using blood glucose monitor to identify foods that raise her glucose, and how stress affects her blood glucose. She is now working on ways to reduce stress, eg HeartMath, breathing, appreciation.

Also working with exercise and timing.

As she is very highly strung I was thinking of a saliva test for adrenal stress. Her glucose can go up 50 points when she’s stressed.

I’d appreciate your feedback of the thyroid results and what to do next.

  18. Jane Guyette says:

You mention several times in the gluten presentations that it is a great “mimicker”. What exactly do you mean by that? Are you saying that gluten symptoms can look like other disease symptoms?

  19. Kristi Rainwater says:

    Hi Dr. Ritamarie ,
I wanted to let you know I loaded several files and sent them in . This is all my lab work from earlier this year as well as some I just had done recently . I’ve also included the Methylation and Detox Profiles from Genetic Genie .

I’ve had a plethora of issues for a very long time , but in the last few few years things have gotten progressively worse even as my diet has gotten progressively better . There are many , many stress factors that have been involved and I know this has been a huge part of the problem . I am diligently working on all those emotional issues to clear anything that may be a hindrance , and I do believe I am on the uphill swing with all that.
I was Dx with Lyme , FM , CFS, candida , parasites, leaky gut ,and many other things . I have done many treatments and diets over the years but it has been a roller coaster of getting better and worse again .

Bottom line is , for over a year I have been at a place of only being able to eat a few foods . I started reacting to EVERYTHING ! The reactions are very sudden onset , as in immediately when I take a bite or drink of something , I will feel like my face and throat start to swell and sometimes like I’m going to pass out . I get shaky and disoriented and sometimes it has lasted for hours or more . At first I thought I was having panic attacks , but I had never had these before and it never seemed to correlate with me feeling extra stressed or upset . Just seemed random and I never knew what was going to cause this reaction next .
This is a list of foods I’ve had over the last year and some I’ve had to quit eating because I started having mild reactions to those as well.
Chicken and chicken broth , broccoli, cauliflower , cabbage , squash , apples , blueberries , white rice , asparagus , coconut products , sweet potatoe and white potatoe . I’m only eating about half of those now and I am craving green foods and fermented foods desperately as that used to be a big part of my diet , but I started reacting to those as well.
I’ve been very stuck in the avoidance mode , knowing I need real nutrition and to restore my gut lining and flora . I’ve read so much about histamine intolerance , mast cell reactions and many other things , but I’m just feeling overwhelmed and brain fog is at an all time high .
I’ve got so much on my plate with being a single mom of three homeschool kids , trying to remodel a house , get my business up and rolling and attempting to do school . I simply can’t afford to have another bad reaction to something and be out of commission and have more hospital bills . Therefore I’ve stayed in avoidance mode instead of trying anything new .
But my body is not well . I’m been feeling terrible , constant aches and pains , inability to sleep well , scattered thinking and in the last few months peripheral neuropathy . I was in a car accident in September . Was hit from behind by a car going 70 mph while I was at a dead stop. It messed my neck up terribly and I really went into a downward spiral after this happened .
Sorry this is so long , I wasn’t sure how much info to submit . Any input would be appreciated 🙂
    Thank you , Kristi

  20. Toni St. Clair says:

    Hello Dr. Ritamarie,

I submitted a file client file for my stepson. I just received the blood work, so I’ve not done a thorough analysis yet. I know there are MANY nutritional deficiencies including Vitamin D. I tried to submit questionnaires I completed, but the file uploader gave me an error message. I will send the file separately at NEPT@Drritamarie.com.

I think this case would be a good learning opportunity for our NEPT coaching call scheduled for today (12/18). As long as we can redact his name from the documents, I don’t mind sharing the lab tests with the group.

  21. Sequoia Springford says:

Hello Dr Ritamarie, I have submitted a client tracker file via the uploader for discussion on Live Coaching Call on Wednesday 29 October. Extra info: CB age 57, female, (have added more in the comments accompanying the file in uploader)

Main concerns: constipation related to low peristalsis, Borrelia, Hashimoto’s.
Started with diet (removing top allergens) and toxin reduction, noticed increase in energy after 2 weeks.

    Diagnosed primary hypothyroid
Diagnosed Hashimoto’s 1992 after lump on neck found, partial thyroidectomy. Diagnosed with Lyme, Borrelia
    Diagnosed fibroids 2014

  22. Toni St. Clair says:

Sending in lab work a potential client sent . She said among other tests, that a thyroid panel was run. It does not seem complete to me. I will send via email to NEPT@drritamarie.com

  23. Cassandra Herbert says:

I will be on the call today and I had some labs I wanted to share and discuss on the call. I am going to email the labs to NEPT@drritamarie.com

    Thank you,
    Cassanndra

  24. Heather Ilse says:

I am missing the NEPT live call yet again, and it may be a while still before I’m able to fully participate in this program in real-time. Everything is coming to a head right now regarding our boat-building, boat-launching, leaving-Minneapolis, selling my urban permaculuture oasis, boogying-up-to-the-Great-Lakes-before-winter-sets-in Crazy Life Plan. I am listening to the replays repeatedly and loving all you people so much. Just wanted to say, “Hey. You are my tribe.” I’m hoping I’ll be more of an active participant by mid-October. I left a long note for Dr. Ritamarie at the Accountability Journal. Thanks for all you do!

  25. Cassandra Herbert says:

    Hello Dr. Ritamarie,
I am unable to make the call today, but have a couple of questions.

    1. Can higher doses of buffered vitamin C cause digestive issues such as constipation? I am taking about 10,000 mg a day and my digestive system has been sluggish. I have noticed on the days I don’t take it my bowels are more regular. I am also taking Glutamed RX once day.

    2. My husband is also taking about 9,000 mg a day and reported white like “clumpy) powder in his stool last night? Could something be going on with his gut and the way he is digesting/absorbing it. He has noticed a change in his energy after taking the Vitamin C. He says he feels more energetic and overall better physically.

    3. I also recently read an article that said larger doses of vitamin C can displace Vit B12 from the body and can block cooper absorption. What are your thoughts on this?

    Thank You!
    Cassandra

    • Stacey Terry says:

Hi Cassandra! I have posted your questions for you on the INE Office Hours event page in the Q&A box so that Ritamarie will see them. Sorry, we had some trouble on our end with call naming confusion, so I just want to be sure your questions are addressed on that INE call instead of the next NEPT Coaching call.

      Best wishes!
